Big Hero Six
I recently watched Big Hero Six again, and I wanted to bring up a couple topics. Just for fun.
.
Spoilers.
.
The first is Professor Callaghan.
For a while, it bugged me that he could so abruptly become a murderer. He tries to kill a number of his own students! Kids who looked up to him! But then I started to realize, how much do we really know about him before he "dies?"
Well, the first time we meet him, he manipulates a genius kid into signing up for his program.
And second he picks a fight with a famous person, in a very public area in front of a bunch of his students.
.
So yeah. Despite his students looking up to him, he's not the most level guy.
.
.
I also love parallels in movies. And Hiro has a couple big parallels. First Tadashi says, "Someone has to help," and runs into a burhning building to save someone.
And Hiro loses his brother in the fire.
.
Then at the end, Hiro says, "someone has to help." And he and Baymax fly into the portal. Hiro and Abigail make it out, but this time Hiro loses Baymax. Or at least he thinks he does.
.
I still think Baymax is the best robot ever.

Water, Earth, Fire, Air
Last week I spent two straight hours coming up with new names for all of the Magic-Folk. Including the term "Magic Folk." So until further notice, the blanket term for all of these races will be Aevenn.
I came up with the original names (like Volkein, Aneem, Aquatica) back in high school. But as time passed, some of those names felt dumb. Like calling the people with plant magic "Dryads." There are actual dryad tree spirits in their world. It would be confusing to have dryad tree spirits, and Dryad humans with plant magic.
So this is a project that has been on my mind for a very long time. It feels great to finally have it done! (Though it may require some future tweaks)
There are eight races of Aevenn. But once I thought of a system for naming them, I did most of them in one night.
The one I had the most trouble with was the race which blends all of the powers (it's the same race Fern is). I figured that one out a day later.
I'll have to try these new names out for a while and see if they feel right. But so far, I really like most of them!
I had to rename the air people already, because their name was too similar to the name for the animal people.
For the name "Aevenn," I played with the word for their language. The main language on their planet is Venn. So I built on that and renamed the Magic-Folk "Aevenn."
The method I used for naming the individual races was easy once I knew what I wanted to do. Their world has different gods for the different elements. It would make sense for the Aevenn to consider their magic a blessing from the gods. So I used the name of each of their gods as a base. Though I also made sure to have some taste of their power in the word. Like playing off of the world "aquatic," for the water people.
I've always had both ice and water people. I think I'll keep them separate, but the two are closely related and have a lot of overlap between them.
(Just to clarify, there are mages who can doo all of this elemental stuff. But they don't qualify as Aevenn unless they inherit their magic from their race of people. Most magic is not really genetic.)

Oh Computers
Bleh. When I updated my computer a few weeks ago, it messed a bunch of stuff up. I took it in on Monday, and they had to wipe the whole thing and start over.
So all that work I spent setting up my new computer? I gotta do it all again. --_--
I haven't been able to write in a couple days. Hopefully I'll have that ready in a day or two.
Here's some giraffes smacking against each other, to mimic the state of my mind.
(Normally it's just male giraffes that fight by swinging their heads into each other. These are two girls, so their fighting is far more gentle - it's just playing)

Animal Partner
Do you remember a while ago I was trying to think of a proper name for a mage's animal partner?
I had an idea ages ago. But it never clicked. I finally had some new ideas. There are a couple that I keep debating about. I'm still reluctant to commit to commit to one though.
I feel like I'm going to have to try it out in a story to see if it actually feels right.
So hopefully I'll actually have that name down this time @_@
