OMG SUMMER~

Kiiiiiiii~ FINALLY! I'M DONE! <3333

College is out & my finals are done as of this morning. x3 omgosh it's an amazing feeling. I'd forgotten what this kind of freedom feels like! No moar classes until fall~

In other news: I got a job. OwO;; Seriously. I just finished Day 2, so it'll probably be a while before I see much money (except for the tips x3 chyeaaaah, waitress ftw), but working as an adult, man. Life has suddenly gotten intense 3 days a week. xD I work at a mom & pop Japanese restaurant and so far I've gotten a crash course of working in a small restaurant business, busing tables, taking orders, getting drinks, bringing out food, setting the tables, greeting people, doing the checks, and aaaaaah cleaning. I think the owner is expecting me to take over watching the shop during the morning. o_o; But for now I'm still getting the hang of dividing my attention to the back when food is ready and managing customers in front and cleaning all in between. The thing is, the owner doesn't want you to sit still during slow hours, there's always something to be doing. Well, I haven't gone crazy yet, so this job should be okay (we'll see how that stands next week after I have to do a dinner shift).

At least now I have a fair understanding of what employers mean when they say 'fast-paced environment'. ._.

Oh oh oh and Fanime is today! But I'm not going until Sunday with Mom & co (cause I'm short on cash like that). Probably gonna be camera happy as usual. I hope I sees my peoples there!

OH, and my Senior friends are graduating today. *sniff* They're getting so old. They better post up some pictures >_<; But I expect most of them are passing up the silly boat thing and going to Fanime instead. xD

AND, before I forget, x3 That is a really cute chibi!Haku. It actually bends pretty well with that photo too! It hardly looks photoshopped. x3

lulz Ellen actually posted! x3

Chibi!

Just finished it and had to put it up.
Heheh. The moment I get out of school, I bombard my blog to make up for lost time.
So, I've never seen a chibi dragon Haku, so I decided to try one myself.

Avatar the Last Airbender

OK, I just had to post again today. I finished watching Avatar about 1 minute ago.
HOOWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only more so!
I can't believe it's actually over. Some people say that they're sad when a good book, or series ends. But I always get really excited and feel happy.
YAAAYYYY!!!
Can you tell?
^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^-^
^-^
OK, it's official. I loves Zuko. Zuko is awesome. My favorite character. (And his hair near the end looks really fluffy! Hahaha!) But there's a ton of awesome characters!
And I did some research. Well, sort of. It's all off Wikipedia.
Some of the mythology and culture behind Avatar.

The term "Avatar" comes from the Indian language of Sanskrit. The word Avatāra, (Sanskrit: अवतार), which means "descent"; its roots are ava, "down," and tri, "to pass." In the Hindu scriptures, avatara signifies the descent of Divinity into flesh. One who attains union with Spirit and then returns to earth to help humanity is called an avatar. The Chinese characters that appear at the top of the show's title card mean "the divine medium who has descended upon the mortal world."
When Aang was young, he unknowingly revealed that he was the Avatar when he chose four toys out of thousands, each of which were the childhood toys of the previous Avatars. In Tibetan Buddhism, there is a similar test for reincarnations of a Tulku Lama. In Magic and Mystery in Tibet, Alexandra David-Neel writes that "a number of objects such as rosaries, ritualistic implements, books, tea-cups, etc., are placed together, and the child must pick out those which belonged to the late tulku, thus showing that he recognizes the things which were theirs in their previous life." Each successor is expected to show signs of continuity with the previous Avatar, such as being born within a week of the death.

Avatar draws on the four classical elements common to most ancient philosophies (rather than the five classical Chinese elements) for its bending arts: Water, Earth, Fire and Air. Although each has its own variation, most ancient philosophies incorporate these four elements in some way: examples include the classical Hindu, Buddhist, and Greek elemental traditions.
In the show’s opening, each element is accompanied by two Chinese characters: an ancient Chinese seal script character on the left, and a modern Chinese character on the right:
Water (Chinese: 水; pinyin: shui) is associated with benevolence and adaptivity (Chinese: 善; pinyin: shan).
Earth (Chinese: 土; pinyin: tu) is associated with strength and stability (Chinese: 強; pinyin: qiang).
Fire (Chinese: 火; pinyin: huo) is associated with intensity and passion (Chinese: 烈; pinyin: lie)
Air (Chinese: 气; pinyin: qi) is associated with peace and harmony (Chinese: 和; pinyin: he).

The fighting choreography of the show draws from martial arts; the fighting styles and weaponry are based on Chinese martial arts, with each bending art corresponding to a certain real-world style. The creators referred to Ba Gua for Airbending, Hung Gar for Earthbending, Northern Shaolin for Firebending, and Tai Chi for Waterbending. The series employed Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association as a martial arts consultant.
Each fighting style was chosen to represent the element it projected:
Tai Chi focuses on alignment, body structure, breath, and visualization. This technique is the foundation of "Waterbending" in the series.
Hung Gar was chosen for its firmly rooted stances and powerful strikes to present the solid nature of earth. This martial art is the basis of "Earthbending" in the series.
Northern Shaolin Kung Fu uses strong arm and leg movements. This technique is the foundation of "Firebending" in the series.
Ba Gua uses dynamic circular movements and quick directional changes.[22] This technique uses centripetal force to generate power, and uses nearly constant circular movement to create angles between the combatants. This martial art is the basis of "Airbending" in the series.
The only exception to this is Toph, who can be seen practicing a Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style. Its distinguishing movements and unique footwork give her the ability to overcome her blindness and defeat more muscular Masters of Earthbending. It also makes sense when one considers she is mostly self-taught.

And this stuff kind of relates, but I thought it was interesting.

The doctrine of five phases describes two cycles, a generating or creation (生, shēng) cycle, also known as "mother-son", and an overcoming or destruction (剋/克, kè) cycle, also known as "grandfather-nephew", of interactions between the phases.
Generating
The common memory jogs, which help to remind in what order the phases are:
Wood feeds Fire;
Fire creates Earth (ash);
Earth bears Metal;
Metal carries Water (as in a bucket or tap, or water condenses on metal);
Water nourishes Wood.
Also:
Wood absorbs Water;
Water rusts Metal;
Metal breaks up Earth;
Earth smothers Fire;
Fire burns Wood.
Other common words for this cycle include "begets", "engenders" and "mothers."
Overcoming
Wood parts Earth (such as roots) (or Trees can prevent soil erosion );
Earth absorbs (or muddies) Water (or Earth dam control the water);
Water quenches Fire;
Fire melts Metal;
Metal chops Wood.

This cycle might also be called "controls", "restrains" or "fathers".

Cat Feet

Elllen's so funny.
"I haven't really had time to work on anything, but I've had time to read all these manga."
Just kidding!
Ellen, you didn't finish your Lan Fan costume! You would have been good as her! Sheesh! I told you to work on it sooner.
I didn't know Stray Dog was buy the FMa person. But then again, I read that one before I read FMA. Hmm. It was an interesting concept (It gave me an idea for something). And the little dog guys were cute!
I'll check out the other short one too. Now that I'm on vacation, I don't have to worry about homework anymore. Just about Mom telling me stuff to do.
I've decided, next year I want to dress up as Yellow. I just need to make a yellow vest thing and borrow Stephanie's big straw hat. Heheh. And I can carry a stuffed Pikachu around. She's my favorite from the Pokemon Adventures Manga.

So, there's a random thing that I wanted to write about. I've been putting it off for a few weeks.
So, I volunteer with the cats at the humane society on fridays. Right before I work with the wildlife.
When you're working with cats you don't know, you need to err on the cautious side. They do have sharp claws and teeth and can cause a lot of damage. I've never had a problem with it.
See, I'm a pet psychic. Actually, they're called animal communicators.
^-^
I just wrote that because I wanted to get people's reactions.
Anyway, whatever the case, I'm good at reading animals, and they're good at reading me.
One general guideline to live by. If a cat rolls on its back, don't rub their tummy unless you know them very well. They might grab your arm and claw you. Some cats like belly rubs, but a lot don't.
So, I had this cat in one of the rooms and she kept rolling around on her back.
With my awesome psychic powers, I reminded her that humans have delicate skin and she has to be careful with her claws. I got the sense it was okay to pet her. So, I put my hand on her tummy. She grabbed my arm in her forepaws and began kicking the krayp out of my forearm with her back feet while at the same time chewing on my fingers. The thing was, she didn't put a scratch on me. She kept her claws sheathed. She just held and kicked, without hurting me in the least. And her chewing was just playful and didn't hurt at all.
And no, she wasn't de-clawed. She had claws. She was being very delicate with me. She seemed to enjoy beating my arm up, so I let her do it a few more times. It was amusing to watch, and I was impressed by her control and carefulness. If she chewed a little too hard, I'd remind her of my fur-less skin and she'd be more gentle.
After several arm-kicking sessions in a row, I didn't have so much as one scratch.

Fanime

Waaah! I cant wait for fanime it's gonna be so much fun! X3 I'm so excited yay! Anyway I'm just waiting for class to start since i'm not out of school yet T-T but I'm still really happy cause fanime is just around the corner. I'm gonna see everybody and look at all the booths and the art and go to the masquerades and eat a lot of good food and run around like a crazy person and maybe buy a plushie and agonize over the fact that I dont have enough money to buy a sword or a place to put it for that matter. Yay for run on sentences ^__^ Anyway if you cant tell I'm really excited about fanime. Dont really have a cosplay this year so I'm going as random samurai or whatever. I can totally pull if off to cause my hair's still pretty short. Mwa ha ha ha ha. I had a scone for breakfast...there was sugar on it :D

So I havent been working on much lately, too much homework and projects and things to deal with. But I have read a whole ton of manga a lot of the psychological ones, they're kinda creepy but I think most if not all psychological manga will be creepy. But some are pretty good. Like Uzumaki was really really really really really weird and creepy, there's just no other word to describe it. It's about a town in the mountains by the sea that's cursed by a spiral. yeah it sounds lame...at least till you read it. Makes me shudder, anyway there's also stuff that's kinda creepy but sometimes uplifting, like Ikigami. It's about a national prosperity plan in japan where everyone is injected with a vaccine but 1 out of 1000 of the vaccines have a capsule that is supposed to explode and cause the person to die at a predestined time. And the government is the one who instated this vaccine thing to make people realize the value of life. Some of the people go crazy and try to kill other people to get revenge. Others try and leave something good for the world and die with dignity. It's really cool, might be a little gruesome though...

Oh or Pluto, that was a good one i read a while ago. It's about robots with AI and what exactly draws the line between robot and human. Really makes you think. It's about trying to find the "monster" that's killing off the seven most widely known and advanced robots. I really liked all the characters.

And I finally read 20th century boys. I was kind of put off because of the art, and the summary didnt really do it justice. But it's really interesting. About a group of boys who wanted to save the world from some kind of bad guy. But they needed to come up with the evil plan that they had to save the world from. So they started their elaborate plan even coming up with a symbol for their group. Then years later when they're all grown up and have forgotten everything about their game bad things start to happen all over the world. And one of them comes to realize that it's exactly how they thought the bad guy would take over. A really cool conspiracy manga, gets a little confusing at times, but overall really good.

Then there's the higurashi no naku koro ni, and the umineko no naku koro ni series. Both are really interesting and puzzle like, but are all about murders. So if you cant stomach the blood and gore, you might not want to read it. But I think it's really interesting with the puzzles and the different viewpoints. It really does get grotesque sometimes and it's kind of surreal when everything seems normal. Cause when everything is ok it almost seems like a shoujo manga or something and you get really confused...at least until people start dying...

Wow that was a depressing list of manga. Now for some not so depressing ones!

Chii's sweet home. I love that cat. Read it it's awesome. They're short chapters, and really the cute feel good kind of manga.

Whistle. A sports manga about soccer. A kid who transfers from a really good athletic school to a mediocre school. He wants to play soccer and sucks at it, but he works so hard and with such determination...so awesome ^__^

Kimi ni todoke. A cute shoujo manga. I stumbled across it while doing research for the new story I'm writing, I had to read so many shoujo manga (shudder). But this one was really interesting. Very different. A girl who everyone is scared of is the heroine, resulting in very funny misunderstandings. Tee hee. Peopel think she's a ghost sometimes.

Two oneshots I think should get more attention
Souten no Koumori, and Stray dogs. Both by the author of fullmetal alchemist. so awesome. I cant even do them justice >__< they're just that good. Ok well so I cant do any of these mangas justice because they're all brilliant.

Anyway I gotta get to class, read some of these if you're interested ^__^

Oh yeah and fanime...yay X3

Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee)

I just got out for summer today. And I feel soooo nice! ah, lovely.
OK, so, this one is Crystal's fault. She got me a book for my birthday. A manga called Tegami Bachi. She got me the second volume, so of course that meant I had to go get the first volume. What a sneaky trick to play on someone!
I read the rest of it online. It's pretty good. It's interesting. I like the stuff about the heart. And Niche is cute.
So, the premise. There's this strange land that is plagues by big bug-like things called Gaichuu that will eat people's heart.
The Letter Bees deliver letters (which contain the heart of the people who wrote them). They travel this land to deliver the letters of people, and they fight gaichuu on the way there and stuff.
Pictures! Crystal recommended this manga because it's got nice artwork. I'll put up soem pictures.
Lag and Niche are in the first pic. (I know they have weird names). Niche is the girl. Lag is the boy. And that thing on Niche's head is some animal that she's named Steak. The older boy in some of the pictures is Gauche (which I believe is pronounced Goshu but I haven't seen the anime yet). Some of the last pics are from the anime. And the gaichuu-giant bugs-are in the last pics too.

Shadows of Time

I just realized that I haven't posted about this at all! 3 weeks ago, I started putting up 2 new fanfictions. I've never done 2 at a time before, so we'll see how it goes. I've gotten them up on time so far. I try to stick with one chapter per week per fanfic. It was right after I finished the first episode of my Pokémon one. See, Path of the Chosen comes in a few different parts. And the readers wanted me to start the second one right away. So, I did. But there's also a Zelda fanfic that I've been working on recently that has Shadow Link as the main character. See, the fanfic started because there were a lot of different Zelda characters from many different games, and I wanted to find a way to use them all. But then what would the plot be? And who would be the main character?
Then I re-read the Four Swords manga, and at the end, Shadow Link turns good. When I took the train the next morning, my brain started working. Trains are a great place to think. And I realized, "I could use Shadow Link!" At first I was gonna make him sort of quiet and distant. But Ellen's influence (especially with Nex) made me eventually settle on a quite different Shadow Link. Which adds a much more interesting element. Can you trust him to do his duty and protect the Link whose shadow he is? Plus I've never written for a character like him before, and It's kinda fun!
I wrote the first chapter during humanities class. I think I thought of it during that same train ride. I couldn't hold it in any longer, so I just wrote it during class. Heheh. I like the first chapter. It's a little darker than I usually do, but it was awesome to write. Nick stole it and read it after I finished writing it. His reaction was perfect. He didn't know what the dark hand was until he realized that Link's shadow was missing. Heheh. I think that's the first thing he's ever read that I've written. I wonder what he thought about it.
Anyway, links! I mean, links to my stories, not the character Link.
Here's my second part of the Pokémon fanfic. Path of the Chosen 2: Frail Heart.
And here's the link to Shadows of Time.

Sad Old Kids

You know what I notice a lot that's sad?
In high school, and especially college, it seems, kids stop doing stuff. They say they don't have tim to read books and playing music. Books is a big one. A lot of kids stop reading books for fun because they don't have enough free time. I refuse to let that happen though. I always have a book going. I may not get through them really fast, but I'll work on them at school between classes, or in the car or something.
So you'd better not give up reading! There's an endless shelf of good books out there that have to be read.
And as to not having free time? I think you can make the time to get through something if you REALLY want to. I have a long commute to get to college, and I still find time to update fanfics, watch Avatar and FMA Brotherhood, and watch an occasional movie. Though I should work on my real stories some more.
And sooo many people stop playing in the band when they get to college! I'm not majoring in music, but I've remained playing in the college band for 2 years so far. Don't you give up music either! It's something that will be forgotten. I know. I used to play piano when I was little. But I didn't play for over 10 years, so now I don't remember a thing about it. Really. Nothing. I only got my flute.
Maybe I'll have less free time as I start my second half of college, but so far I haven't worn myself down yet.
Don't you DARE let school stop you doing what you love! Make time for yourself!
But make sure you get enough sleep. That REALLY is important. With Mom being a yoga teacher (Dad is too) she knows lots about that kind of stuff. I don't remember the details but you NEED enough sleep. Go research it if you don't believe me.

Scales of Carp

So, there's short story I've been kind of working on. It's called Scales of Carp.
It's based off of a Chinese myth I read about somewhere. According to this myth. there is a waterfall somewhere that leads to the dragon's kingdom (Chinese dragons are said to have the scales of a carp, hence the title of the story). A dragon guard this waterfall, because if any koi leaps over the waterfall, that koi will become a dragon.
So, the longer version of my story is about a little koi and a human boy who are traveling upriver to try to find the dragon kingdom to ask them to bring rain because of a severe drought. Both of them aim to help a little girl who is sick and crippled. And the boy and the koi can talk to each other.
So, I made a severely shortened version of this story (mainly of the ending) for a couple of purposes. Here's one reason:
Humanities is a big honors course that lasts 2 years. You stay with the same kids, so you get to make a lot of good friends (I have some in that class, like Nick and Tracey). So, on the last day of class, it's tradition for kids to put on skits. So, I'd been thinking about it on and off through the semester and had prepared my short 2-page story. I was gonna get Nick to do the koi's voice, and Tracey to do the dragon's voice. I'd have the most dialogue as the narrator. Turns out Tracey's too shy to speak in public. -_-
You know what else? No one else in the class had anything prepared. A couple kids improved, but that's it. So, I recruited a girl from my class and read my story.
Well, didn't turn out quite perfect. Mel, especially, made the dragon sound kind of goofy and... stupid. So my touching story ended up sounding kind of dumb. Sigh. Well, I only stumbled once. Usually I'm not too great at reading out loud, but I knew my story well enough that I did OK.
Whatever. What can you expect? Professor Scaff said that it was really good. So did another girl in the class.
Yeeeaaaah. I hope so.

Avatar (and this time I mean the Last Airbender)

OK, so next on my list of anime is Avatar, the Last Airbender (since it's american, it's not technically anime...). I saw a couple episodes on TV when it was running, but didn't really follow it. I got the general idea of the direction though.
So, started watching it on the internet. I like it so far. More than I thought when it was running on TV (since I didn't follow it...)
It's a bit goofy at times, but it's good. I think it's interesting how the Avatar thing follows the Tibetan reincarnation thing, about how the next reincarnation will find the belongings of the person he was incarnated in before. And from one of the episodes I saw on TV, there's stuff about chakras (which I find interesting) and there's yin yang carp which are really cool too. And yeah. The mythology behind it is really neat.

(I'm gonna spoil some stuff, so don't read further if you don't want to spoil anything. I repeat, SPOILERS).
So, I think it was episode 13 that I got to a couple nights ago (and I didn't post about it today? I been busy!) So, Aang was captured yet again and is saved by this mysterious person wearing a mask and wielding two swords. As that whole rescue scene was going on, I kept thinking, "whoa, that guy in the mask is AWESOME!" And then when Aang took off the mask, I went "Duuuude, it's Zuko!" Actually, I really like Zuko. I am slightly biased in this because one of the handful of episodes I saw showed him trying to help the others (though they understandably didn't trust him). I feel sorry for him, I guess. When I found out he was the one with the mask, my mind jut clicked "OK, he's pretty awesome."

SPOILERS ENDED

There are a few characters that I like that are like that. They're antagonists, but they're not exactly evil. I also liked Scar from the Full Metal Alchemist anime. He's a bit more scary in the manga.

Anyway, yeah. I have now finished the first "book" (the water section). And like Ellen and Nicole, I am getting hooked.

Fanime

STEPHANIE POSTED!!!! I's so excited!
OK, first to respond to Steph.
Fanime! Yes, it's in just a couple weeks. I need your cell phone number. I don't think I have it. Emial me! That way I can call you cause Nicole and I are going down on Saturday, and I'm gonna show you guys something pretty (if it's still there) and We're gonna go get Chinese food at this really good place that we went to last year.
Are you gonna dress up? I mad a Manaphy hat months ago, so I decided to dress up as Manaphy. Except for the hat, all I need are light blue clothes and some yellow and red disks to pin onto hirt and hat.
And yes, fanime definitely is a black hole for money.
Ah, jobs. I don't have an official job. But see, Mom makes jewelry, so I unofficially work for her. It's enough to pay for car insurance, and then I get spending money from allowance and stuff. So... I only PARTLY mooch. Heheh. I am a bit dependent though. Heheh.
I tried signing up for a job at Pet CLub a couple years ago. They didn't ask ONE QUESTION about my experience with animals. I ahve a TON of expreience with animals. But no . THey only asked about if I'd used a type writer or if I'd helped people buy stuff. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE? YOu think that experience with animals isn't important when working with animals for adoption?
So, I gotta stick with volunteering at the humane society with the wildlife and teh cats.
Yaay Steph! Finish your projects! You gots good ideas! (yes, I purposfully do bad grammar occasionally just for fun like I's or gots).
Fiction press, huh? Interesting. I like putting stuff on fanfiction, because I'm stealing other characters, but I'm not sure if I'd put my original stories and characters online. I'll check out that story when I get home. I'm at school now. In Dad's office. We're gonna get dinner, and then I have a band concert at 7:30 tonight. This is Craig's last semester as our conductor, so he's going all out. He's chosen a baseball theme. Our concert is arranged like a baseball game. I've never been to one before. Anyway, we'll mis Graig. He's a good conductor and he makes everyone laugh. I wish we had more slow, pretty songs though.
I found out today that I have 2 onofficial solos. One is a long high-ish note that sounds not very prefect with 2 of us, so Crystala said I should paly it (she gets the other nasty high note though) and then shge granted me another one, which is more fun. Anyway, solos are fun. As long as I don't mess up! Haha! Wish me luck!

Would You Look at That!

You know it's been a while when you look at the blog and you have to go back a page to see if you missed anything. Dx And despite what y'all might think, I do actually read the blog posts here even if I never reply. Since we(we, being mostly Fern) didn't get more than 10 posts last month, I think we can manage to do 10 this month plus mooooore. Especially since it's MAY, and May means FANIME. 8D

Are you guys ready for this year? Got big plans? I've decided I'm not going to buy a badge, but probably hang around on Saturday with a couple of other no-badge people. I can't afford to spend a cent, and Fanime is a sinkhole for money.

Speaking of money, I need to get a job. I seriously can't mooch forever. But have you ever had the problem where you make a big effort to talk to the employers and yet never get a firm reply of YES or NO? It's frustrating! D:<

BIG props to Hyper for trying to write in a genre and style you're familiar with. I've also been thinking about writing a fanfic from start to finish for realz, since I have this nasty chronic habit of never finishing stuff (yeah, I'm getting help with that). I think if I lay out the main plot out first, then there's better chance that I'll actually finish. I've made basic outlines of what I want the OCs (Original Characters) to be like, and how some of them grow and change throughout the story. However, I'm stuck on what the big 'turning point' in the whole plot will be. Thinking out the plot from start to finish before daring to write is really (mental)labor intensive. There's the whole 'Crisis vs Conflict' issue to think about. Crisis are fun to read, but don't really develop the story much(little kid shows especially) . I found some interesting articles (bookmarks or on another computer though D:) on writing. Have you guys found anything like that?

And I will end this post with a FictionPress.com recommendation. It's kind of like FanFiction.net but for original stories (I don't know how friendly the people are, or what the quality of writing it like, but I've found a few good ones). The story is called Hellbound written by Kanilla and it was really it's description that caught my attention:
"Lilith was just trying to summon a ghost to pay someone back for harassing her. She didn't expect to summon the 2nd Prince of Hell instead! And what's worse, he refuses to leave her side!"
The first couple of chapters are hilarious while Lilith adapts to having a Prince of Hell hanging around her house. xD I just love the concept.

((DD8< Part of my post got eated, so it's not exactly how I worded it the first time and doesn't sound as good. GAH, TECHNOLOGY!))

Can't express with words...

You know, there are some things that can't really be expressed in words. Even if you're a great writer, it would be impossible to convey every sensation and idea you have. It would be almost impossible to try to write out a movie and get it to create the same emotions.
There's one example I can remember right now.
Fujimoto. Ponyo's dad. I find him absolutely hilarious. Nicole loves him. He's such a unique character. But it would be... impossible to write him without him sounding, well, creepy.

Baby Max

So, when I read the Maximum Ride manga, there was this REALLY cute picture of Max as a baby, and I just had to draw her. It took me until last night to color her. The background is a photo I tookof the sky.
Oh, on Deviantart, since my universal username is Fern ,someone called me Fern-chan. I thought that sounded really cute! No one's ever used chan on me before, even over the internet. Heheh.
For those of you who don't know, chan is sort of a friendly title placed at the end of the name of girls. Uh... ask Ellen for more detailed info about the titles. I get generally what they're about, but I don't know all the details.

Full Metal Alchemist manga

So, these are a couple of the extra random funny comics at the back of the Full Metal Alchemist Manga. After I finished the original anime, I started reading the manga and I recently caught up with how far it's been written. It seems like it's almost over though!
So I've watched the first two episodes of FMA Brotherhood. Ed sounds a little more like a girl, actually.
Anyway, I haven't gotten too far in Brotherhood yet, so I'm not sure what to make of it. Again, only seen 2 episodes.
The manga was pretty good, though again, not for the faint of heart. It can be pretty dark (and funny at times too!)
So, the first comic will be understood only if you know anything about FMA. But as a quick explanation, in the anime, Al hid a kitten in his armor. And in another episode, Scar broke Al's armor.
The second really doesn't require explanation... Just 2 overly smart kids.

Oh, to all of you who are confused, I'll tell you what I've been told.
The original Full Metal Alchemist show was started as the book series was still running. So the anime got ahead of the manga, and they had to start making up their own stuff. So after we meet Greed, they pretty much go off in completely different directions. It's still good.
So, FMA Brotherhood actually follows the manga all the way (though neither are completed yet).

Victorian

It's kinda cool to read character bio things.
Yeah, I do remember that tree from The Lost Years of Merlin . But There weren't dragons living at the top of it. Heheh. (As a reply to Ellen's comment on my last post).
There are a ton of victorian houses by my school! Most of them are really pretty - except the ones that are a bit run down. I should show you some of them when we're at the anime convention. Other than that I don't know much about the victorian era.
And yeah, it can be tricky to write characters that you have nothing in common with. That's why reading books, watching movies, and knowing lots of strange people comes in handy, huh?

I feel so bad! This is the first time I didn't get over 10 posts in a month! Waah! I kept forgetting and procrastinating! I must work harder at my blog! Poor blog!
In order to get more posts, I will start a new post for every sentence. What do you think about that? That will get me lots of posts!
Well... maybe not.

New Story

So I've been working on a story idea, it's in the very early tentative stages where a lot of things are subject to change. This story is essentially the epitome of something I would never ever ever write normally, which is exactly why I'm going to do it. I plan to make it a romance not unlike that of shoujo manga. There are a lot of similarities between the set up of my story and shoujo manga. But because I couldn't live with myself if I wrote something so basic, boring, and overdone I'm going to tweak it a bit.

What I have so far is this. There are six people: three girls, three guys all about the same age. They live in the Victorian era in America (subject to change), and are all of middle to upper class (because the lower class would never interact with upper class people to my dismay >__<). But anyway, the characters are all very stereotypical shoujo manga personalities with a twist. I've read more shoujo manga in a week than I've ever read before all in the sake of research. Admittedly some arent too awful but at times I feel it is extremely repetitive and predictable. So that's why all of my characters are a little different from what you would expect even though the first impression you get from them is very...normal.

Names are also subject to change.

Joyce Treadway:Joyce Treadway: Happy-go-lucky, extraverted, friendly, clumsy but athletic, not that smart, proud, easily offended, intuitive, manipulative, attention seeker, egocentric, acts ‘cute’, spendthrift, scattered, spiteful
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Grey
Height: Short
Weight: Average
Problem: Wants everything life has to offer and cant choose one boy over another, but because she pretends to act like a ditz nobody knows the real her. She is targets boys to make them like her, but keeps them all at a “lets be friends” distance. Tries to see how many boys she can get to fall for her at once. Wants them all to herself, and is quite good at it. This results from a lack of a loving environment at home. Her parents refuse to divorce, but they cant stand each other. Joyce does not understand the concept of love and desperately tries to achieve it, but is unable to because she fears commitment. She faces the world with a happy face, so many people assume that there is never anything wrong in her life, that she has it easy. While she may laugh it off, this is totally not the case. Some girls hate her because she is so ‘simple’ and that life is so easy for Joyce, but even though she refuses every boy that confesses to her they are still jealous. But instead of bullying her they befriend her and use her as a means to get closer to the boys that hang around her. Joyce does not have any real friends that she can talk to, well at least not yet. She is quite the athlete and is a little tom-boyish, but not by much.

Kindra Legall: Reserved, quiet, polite, well-mannered, pretty, graceful, elegant, good at almost anything she does, frail, not good at athletics, intelligent, jealous, sneaky, angers easily, nit-picks, OCD-ish, punctual, depressed, indifferent
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Brown
Height: Average
Weight: slender
Problem: Kindra is the new ‘idol’ of the school after just moving to the city. Pretty, popular, and smart she is the girl that other girls want to become. While Joyce does capture a lot of the boy’s hearts with her vicarious nature, Kindra wins them over with her quiet demeanor and lady-like attitude. An excellent cook and a wonderful musician, she is the image of a rich young lady. She accepts everything with a calm demeanor, but this is because she could really care less. The boys who confess to her are always turned down because she cannot reciprocate their feelings. She does not disclose the fact that she has never felt ‘love’ for another person. Her family is in reality, quite poor, and all their hopes rest on her shoulders. She cares for her younger siblings, but looks at as more of a responsibility than anything. So in her world love equals taking care of others, which is something that she hates vehemently, but hides very well. Kindra is aware of her lack of feelings and feels self-loathing for her inability to empathize with others. Because she is apathetic concerning romance, she feels jealous of everyone who can actually summon up the emotions of ‘love’ or even of ‘like’. This is also why she rejects the boys who confess to her, because she envies their ability to freely feel.

Celia Adkins: Extraverted, attention seeker, self-conscious, artistic, outspoken, offends easily, imaginative, agile, lacks coordination, over confident, obnoxious, loud, butts into conversations, feels left out, immature, vain
Hair: Golden
Eyes: Brown
Height: Tall
Weight: Stout
Problem: Celia is an artistic girl, who spends much of her day staring out of the window and fantasizing when her prince charming might come. She has had several crushes over the years, none of which have been fruitful. Because of this she is constantly discouraged and seeks attention to cope with the rejection, or goes off into wild delusions in which another boy is infatuated with her, when in fact he simply pities her. Celia is extremely self conscious of her weight, height, and apperance. She’s average in intelligence and looks. She feels she has no redeeming features what so ever, and deep down thinks that no boy would ever fall for her. Yet she still pretends that she is the ‘true idol’ of the school, because she has reasoned that if she is the main character of her life’s story, she must be a beautiful princess. She still fantasizes of her first ‘true love’, Damien Mcnevin to come on a white horse and whisk her away. Celia does not do much for others aside from buying expensive and lavish gifts to show her affection. She is a very affectionate and caring person, but does not know how to show it. Her family is very rich and does not spend much time together, instead replacing family with expensive gifts. She is the youngest of three, and nothing is expected of her except to marry a decent man. Fortunately Damien Mcnevin, her ‘one true love’, is such a man.

Damien Mcnevin: Courteous, quiet, mysterious, athletic, sensitive, smart, good looking, charismatic, arrogant, sexist, proud, greedy, vain, perfectionist, driven, confident, capable, reliable, perseverant
Hair: Black
Eyes: Blue
Height: Average
Weight: Average
Problem: While he is surprisingly average on paper, Damien’s appearance is everything but. He is quite good looking, and is quiet, mysterious, and reserved. The girls confess to him on a daily basis but he rejects them all with the façade that if he dated someone the other girls would feel poorly. The girls fall head over heels for this smooth talker. In reality he just doesn’t feel that any of them are worth his time. He will only have a girl who is beautiful, graceful, quiet, reserved, rich, intelligent (but not too smart) and will obey his every whim. Basically he wants a trophy, and Kindra fits the bill. As the son of a failing business, there is much pressure on him to succeed. His father died when he was younger and his mother is completely incapable of anything. While his mother is beautiful and well versed in the arts and music and embroidery, she is a complete ditz and is extremely immature. Damien needs to take over the business before his conniving uncle tries to usurp him.

Joseph Hallaway: Studious, serious, smart mouthed, rude, harsh, direct, blunt, honest, outspoken, dry sense of humor, verifiable well of information on anything, shy, not good with electronics, nerdy, anti-social, perceptive
Hair: Red
Eyes: Brown
Height: Tall
Weight: Thin
Problem: Joseph doesn’t like bullshit, and he doesn’t take it either. He is very perceptive of the world and the people around him. He hates people, but finds them to be interesting. Surprisingly there is a small group of girls who find his personality attractive. Joseph lacks eye-hand coordination, but is surprisingly good at martial arts. Not enough to be the best, but good enough. Normally one would think of him as the type to be the top of the class, but in actuality he is nearly failing everything. He dislikes making an effort, and is extremely lazy. Nevertheless he attends classes regularly and on time, and the teachers find him to be an incredibly bright student, but he never takes much interest in what is being taught. Joesph is very literal usually on purpose to drive people crazy. He spends much of his time observing the other five. While he may not be completely aware of it, he really wants to be able to help the others through their troubles. He knows that nobody else in the entire world understands them as well as he does and in his own weird little way tries to help them along. Joseph tries to help others because he needs help himself. Abandoned as a child he now lives with his adoptive mother and father, they are a caring couple who never had children of their own. Joseph is immensely loyal and considerate, but only to people he feels deserves it.

Thaddeus (Teddy) Wilkes: Average, nickname teddy, dense, thick headed, average in school, sports, and work, strong sense of justice, gullible, persuaded easily, extremely active, considerate, caring, cant say no, friendly
Hair: Light brown
Eyes: Grey
Height: Short
Weight: Stout
Problem: While Thaddeus doesn’t have any internal conflicts he creates many external ones. Because of his honest and open nature many of the girls find him ‘adorable’ and because he cant say no he is often dragged into situations where two girls end up fighting over him and he ends up making both of them cry. Thaddeus does not really understand is very slow at recognizing that someone likes him. He wants everybody to be happy, and is good at cheering people up, which is also why girls find him attractive. Thaddeus has a bit of a weight problem, but he enjoys eating and refuses to diet. He lives and enjoys it, even when the world seems like a terrible place. He tries to please everyone because he’s afraid of rejection. He wants people to like him for who he is, but he doesn’t want to go against anyone causing him to take on the persona he has. In reality he doesn’t really know what he likes or dislikes, Thaddeus is afraid to have an opinion of his own. He really admires Joyce because she is so like him, but is able to voice her opinions freely and be accepted.

And that is my ridiculously in depth creation of my characters. I find it really fun to figure out why people act and think the way they do. Taking a psychology class this quarter has been really helpful ^__^. Regardless I havent fine tuned everything about them. Like their relationships and who falls for who and what feelings change and stuff...ugh this is going to give me a headache. Dont get me wrong I like figuring out relationships and the social networking of people's lives (yeah I'm a little odd), but doing it with the lovey-dovey romantic-ness makes me shudder. But I realized that I dont think romantically or extremely girly that I'm missing an entire class of people who do think that way. Not good if I want to work on character development. I only think in one way (my own) so all my characters all veer toward that and the development is very bland.

But yeah if you guys have any ideas for me let me know. I've been researching Victorian society the past week or so, any info on architecture, etiquette, entertainment, society, etc. would be appreciated. Oh pictures too if you find any post them, especially floor plans. I'm a sucker for floor plans.
