Fern's League

I was trying to think of a way to explain Fern's team that wouldn't sound totally crazy (even if it is totally crazy). Then I thought of the perfect comparison!  

Fern's team is like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. 

Okay, maybe it's not a movie that's widely known. But the team is lead by Sean Connery, so it's got the classy touch. My dad says that's it's one of his favorite movies. I've seen it with him so many times, and I must admit, I quite like it. 

And just like Fern's team, this league is made up of characters throughout classic books. Captain Nemo, Tom Sawyer, Dr, Jekyll, Dorian Gray. 

Well, maybe Fern's team isn't all from classic books... but one or two of them are. 

Sozo and Chay

These are the two horses from Evva's story. Chay is the chestnut mare that Evva borrows for the trip. Sozo is the white mare that is her teacher's horse. Sozo is much more level-headed.

I was Biased

I finally rewatched The Amazing Spider-man. I haven't seen it since it came out. 

And now I'm laughing, because the "second" Spider-man character isn't nearly as bad as I remember. I'm sure that when I saw it, I was just mad that they remade Spider-man films so soon after the first version. The first ones were mine, and I was possessive of them, and didn't want to like the new guy. Heheh. But I really had forgotten almost all of the movie. 

I liked the lizard guy. At least when he was human. I think the lizard form could have been cooler, but I have high standards for animal people. Now I'll have to watch the sequel and see what I think. 

Babble

Watch me sit for 20 minutes while I try to think of inane babble that a teenage girl would spout when unexpectedly confronted by a handsome stranger. 

(I don't know how long I sat and thought the night before. but hopefully tonight I actually got a solution)

Camping for Research

A couple days ago, I got home from a big research trip. 

I'd been wanting to go for years, and I finally made it happened. It would have been nice to have company, but no one wanted to go. So I drove the entire route that Evva and her team takes in the story. I'm glad I did. I got a big chunk of it wrong. 

And to experience the journey more like Evva did, I camped. It was fun. And not nearly as stressful as I was afraid it might be. Except maybe when it started raining, and I discovered that the waterproofing I had used on my tent tarp was not fool proof. My tent started leaking on a freezing cold night. How cold? Well, when I woke, it was actually snowing. On the second day of summer. Somehow I was in a nice, dry pocked in my tent. Much of my stuff got soaked, as did the foot of my sleeping bag. Luckily that was the night before I got home, so I didn't have to deal with wet gear anywhere else. And luckily I have a really warm sleeping bag! 

I'll write a proper post about it. This is just the teaser.  

I had to put my cat down today. 

My sweet, beautiful, smart, perfect cat. 

The house feels so empty.
