CW-Free Verse

A free verse poem. This one's about how your mind can wander all over the place, moving from one thing to the next, and maybe even returning to the original thought.

Wandering Thoughts

Yellow Autumn Leaves
Spiral earthward,
And flutter like
A butterfly
As its wings send it
From flower
To flower,
A fragile pulse, beating,
A heart
Pumping blood
To eyes, toes, and
To fingertips that
Bend and flit
Over the controls
Of the thundering train
That slides along the tracks,
Its hollow body
Carrying lives
From here to there
As its speeding bulk fans
A powerful slipstream,
A hurricane,
That fades
Into a gentle breeze
Like the focused breath
Blowing into
The silver flute
That tweets its melodies
Sweet as the chirps
Of a bird
As it darts
Between the twigs
To which cling the last
Yellow autumn leaves.

I like this concept. Maybe some day I'll attempt it. ^-^
