Restore Steppin’
Accustomed to bandages we cant remove
Morning still comes too fast
Gave what little baggage we had to our goal*
Two shares of sorrow
Travel far beyond the towering mountains
With ever increasing scars, there's no time to be selfish
The empty memory
The energy** of a body
Until the day we can properly retrieve it
We follow the road that continues to tomorrow
Even on days when I strand transfixed by the deep crime I carry
The strong bond we share with each other keeps us going
Even if I ruminate about the thoughts I cant let go
I feel the back at my side looks bigger***
Aaah~ Even if we don’t want to see it
Aaah~ Even if we can't say it
Brother~ Brother~
Confront all obstacles for our friends#
Become stronger for friends
Even if we encounter repetitive conflicts##
The two of us will continue forward
The wandering body that is beyond hope$
Until the day we definitely get it back
I'm not alone, we'll keep walking
* Alternative can be read as "given to our win/way/victory"
** "energy" is more like 'vigor' or 'spirit', it can also be read as 'kiroku' which means 'record' as in 'for the record', or it can be read as 'kyuuryoku' which is a type of power depending on which character you use for 'kyuu'
*** In Japanese culture when someone has a broad/large/wide back it means they're becoming more adult-like, responsible, respectable, etc. In this case the 'back by my side' is Ed's back, and that he is becoming more and more independent, trustworthy, etc.
# Literally 'confront for friends'
## 'katto' means rage, 'kattou' means conflicts very similar sounding and hard to tell from just listening to the lyrics which is correct. It is possible that this was intended. And whether it refers to their own rage/conflicts or outer/other people's rage/conflicts remains unclear
$ Really confusing line. This was the most fitting translation. It was so confusing I don’t even want to put the alternative translations.
